ABOUT US
ICU Tournament (ICUT) is the one and only international tournament held in Japan and one of the biggest with the longest history.
ICU Tournament (ICUT) has been annually held since the establishment of ICU Debating Society (ICUDS), the pioneer of debating clubs in Japan. Two 1991 European champions, who were ICU students, established the competition.. From ICUT’s first year, we have been gathering foreign participants. Initially, the scale of the tournament was small. It was in 2012 that ICUT became such a major tournament. The number of participant increase every year, and more than 300 debaters participated last year. Our debate tournament is now one of the biggest tournaments in Asia!
We think that ICU Tournament is the optimal chance to appreciate the beauty of discussing academic issues in English. We hope that all of you will enjoy this opportunity.
ABOUT Mitaka
During the rapid economic growth in the 1960's, Mitaka’s population expanded from 90,000 to 150,000 in one decade. Many of the new residents were unfamiliar and indifferent to the area, including the city administration, and this led to a weakening of the traditional tight-knit organizations based on the neighborhoods. In 1970's, Mitaka incorporated a “community center plan” into its fiscal program. Thus, Mitaka has become the pioneer of the community idea nationwide. (Mitaka official Home Page)
